ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has approached the Supreme Court against the bail granted to Bushra Bibi, wife of the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in the Toshakhana-II case.

The FIA’s petition states that the bail was approved in a judge’s chamber at the Islamabad High Court, which it claims violates Supreme Court guidelines. The agency alleges that Bushra Bibi was complicit in the case alongside her husband, Imran Khan, in the state gifts case.

Islamabad High Court Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb granted bail to the wife of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana-II case and ordered her immediate release.

Previously, a special judge had denied post-arrest bail for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the same case. Bushra Bibi was arrested on January 31 after an accountability court sentenced her and Imran Khan to 14 years in jail in the old Toshakhana case. Later, the Islamabad High Court suspended their sentences. On July 13, both were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) shortly after being acquitted in the Iddat case.

Their arrest occurred at Adiala Jail following the acceptance of their appeals against a prior conviction related to their nikah, which had been deemed fraudulent.

The couple had been sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each in February of this year.
