ZÜRICH: The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has revealed the candidates for the Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 with World Cup winner Lionel Messi and his PSG teammates Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr. among the nominees.

Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, the current award holder, was also nominated for the Best Men’s Player award.

Ronaldo not part of nominees list

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has two awards and shares the record with Lewandowski, of winning the title of FIFA’s Best Men’s Player twice, is not on the list.

Polish star Lewandowski will become the first player in history to clinch three awards in case he wins this time as well.

It was the maiden nomination of Borussia Dortmund’s English player Jude Bellingham.

The women’s nominee list includes Olympique Lyonnais’ Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, San Diego Wave’s US player Alex Morgan and Barcelona’s Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas.

Last year’s award-holder Putellas will become the most award-winning player in history with two titles if she wins this year.
