The deal was designed to remove Fiji first’s Frank, who has been in power since 2006. Today’s secret parliamentary vote for the prime minister’s office was closer than had been predicated as 28 MPs voted for Rabuka while 27 voted in support of Frank Bainimarama.

The alliance holds 29 seats in the parliament, showing that one member had broken ranks to vote in support of the former prime minister Bainimarama. The President will take oath from the prime minister and his cabinet.
