Fire Erupts Again at Margalla Hills

ISLAMABAD: A massive fire once again erupted in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills National Park on Friday forcing multiple agencies to mobilize to contain the blaze.

According to reports one suspect has been apprehended for his alleged involvement in starting the Margalla Hills fire and handed him over to the police.

Black smoke and flames have been reported in the Ghandian Kalanger area and in front of the E-9 sector of Islamabad.

According to wildlife spokesperson, thirty wildlife officials are currently trying to extinguish the fire. Additional, teams from the CDA and other rescue departments are on-site to control the blaze.

Romina Khurshid Alam, advisor to the PM on environment said currently there are two locations where the fire is burning, with an intense blaze in front of the E-9 hills.

She said the ministry has also requested additional support from the Sixth Aviation Squadron.

Alam said the Ministry of Climate Change is in touch with all concerned agencies.

A helicopter from the Pakistan Air Force has been dispatched to combat the fire and a team from the Pakistan Navy is also taking part in the firefighting efforts. The Islamabad Municipal Corporation team is also actively involved in the exercise.

Efforts are ongoing to control the massive fire and prevent further damage to the national park.
