TEHRAN, Iran: A devastating fire engulfed Ghaem Hospital in Rasht, Iran, claiming the lives of at least nine patients.

The blaze, which erupted at 1:30 am, primarily affected the hospital’s intensive care unit, where most of the victims were hospitalized.

Investigators are probing the cause of the fire, which occurred despite the hospital having 142 occupied beds out of its total capacity of 250.

This tragedy echoes previous incidents in Iran, including a deadly fire at a drug rehab center in Gilan province in November 2023, and a gas canister explosion at a clinic in northern Tehran in June 2020.
