ANKARA, Turkiye: Firefighters in northwestern Turkiye are working to contain wildfires that have erupted in the Eceabat district of Canakkale province, the Goynuk district of Bolu province, and Manisa province’s Gordes district.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli reported on Thursday that the situation is improving, with hopes of complete containment soon.
The extensive firefighting effort involves 14 planes, 31 helicopters, 265 land vehicles, and around 1,400 forestry personnel. Although the cause of the fires remains unknown, authorities have evacuated certain neighborhoods in three villages as a precaution, but no residential areas are currently at risk.
Bolu Governor Erkan Kilic stated that approximately 100 hectares of land have been damaged, and the wildfire in Manisa, which began on Wednesday, is now in its third day. Despite the severity of the situation, officials remain optimistic about bringing the fires under control soon.
