First Death Anniversary of Zia Mohyeddin Observed

ISLAMABAD: The first death anniversary of the renowned actor, broadcaster, and producer, Zia Mohyeddin, was solemnly observed on Tuesday.

Zia Mohyeddin, born on June 20, 1931, in Faisalabad, gained the huge popularity through his captivating talk show, ‘The Zia Mohyeddin Show,’ which aired on Pakistan Television screens in 1969.

His artistic brilliance extended beyond the television realm; he etched his name in theatrical history by originating the iconic role of Dr. Aziz in the stage adaptation of ‘A Passage to India.’ Additionally, his memorable presence in the epic film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ further solidified his legacy in the annals of cinema.

He served as the head of the National Academy of Performing Arts since its inception, nurturing budding talents and fostering a thriving artistic community.

In recognition of his unparalleled contributions to the performing arts, Zia Mohyeddin was honored with numerous awards, including the prestigious Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award, Sitara-i-Imtiaz Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Despite his passing in Karachi on February 13, 2023, at the age of 91, Zia Mohyeddin’s legacy continues to inspire and resonate with generations of artists and admirers alike. —APP
