ISLAMABAD: In a historic moment for Pakistan cricket, opener Abdullah Shafique has etched his name in the annals of the sport by becoming the first Pakistani batter to score a century on his ODI World Cup debut. Shafique achieved this remarkable feat during Pakistan’s intense battle against Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

In a challenging chase of a 345-run target set by Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s innings faced an early setback as both Imam-ul-Haq (1) and Babar Azam (10) were dismissed in a sluggish first powerplay, with Dilshan Madushanka claiming both wickets. However, Shafique’s stellar performance turned the tide for Pakistan.

With solid batting skills on display, Shafique showcased resilience and determination, crafting a magnificent innings of 113 runs off 103 balls.
