RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The number of registered players in the first teams of Roshn Saudi League clubs will drop from thirty to twenty-five beginning with the forthcoming 2024–2025 season, according to announcements made by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and the Saudi Pro League (SPL).

In accordance with the collaborative statement, each club is granted the prerogative to register a maximum of 10 non-Saudi players within their squad. Out of these, eight non-Saudi players of any age are allowed, while the remaining two must be born in 2003 or later. This strategic alteration is designed to foster increased investment in football talent at the club level.

Moreover, clubs retain the right to register one professional football player born in Saudi Arabia, provided their birth year is 1998 or later. Pertaining to matchday squads, each participating team in the Roshn Saudi League is permitted a maximum of eight non-Saudi players and their domestic professional players. Notably, all registered non-Saudi players remain eligible to participate in the King’s Cup and the Saudi Super Cup.

This decision has been made in collaboration with the clubs’ support strategy, in consultation with the management of the national teams, and following input from the SAFF’s technical director. The decision was reached after conducting several workshops with the clubs, aiming to strike a balance that aligns with the overall objectives of promoting local talent while maintaining the competitive dynamics of the league. —SPA/APP
