ISLAMABAD: The Civil Aviation Authority of the United Kingdom has said that all flights were suspended at Stansted Airport due to heavy snowfall in the UK.

Heathrow and Gatwick also canceled or delayed flights after snow, ice, and freezing fog swept the UK. A warning of yellow weather remains in place for Scotland, London, and southwest England until Monday morning, with the disruption set to continue.

A spokesman said that the delays were experienced earlier due to de-icing of aircraft, which is a ground handler’s responsibility, and the safety of aircraft and passengers is paramount. Airport administration advised passengers to check with their airline for the current status of their schedule.

Flights suspended at Heathrow

The airport said that more than 50 flights were canceled at Heathrow on Sunday night and Monday morning after heavy snowfall and freezing fog resulted in air traffic control restrictions on the number of aircraft that could land and depart per hour. Heathrow’s biggest UK airline said it had apologized to customers and was refunding or rebooking anyone whose flight had been canceled and providing refreshments and hotel vouchers where needed.
