Flour, Sugar Prices Increased at Utility Stores in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The prices of sugar, flour, and other essential commodities have jacked up at utility stores across the country.

The price of per kilogram sugar is 155 rupees in Utility Stores, where the price in the open market stands at 142.54 rupees, which is Rs12.46 less than in utility stores, a local media outlet reported on Monday.

Likewise, the price of a 20 kg flour bag is 2840 rupees at Utility Stores, whereas in the open market, the rate is Rs2706.32, which is 133.68 rupees less than in Utility Stores.

Earlier in August, the wholesale rate of sugar hit a record high and reached 163 rupees per kilogram.

Wholesale Grocers Association said in a statement that the per kilogram rate of sugar has gone up by 6 rupees, with a 1-kilogram pack being sold out in the wholesale market at 163 rupees.

Retail Prices 

In retail, the rate of the commodity varies between 170 rupees to 180 rupees per kilogram.

Rauf Ibrahim, the chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association, said that sugar is not available to wholesalers even at high prices. If the surge continues in the sugar, rates can go beyond Rs 200 per kg.
