ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi, on Wednesday, said that Digital Transformation was at the center of Pakistan’s vision to create a conducive environment for technological growth and development.
Talking to a delegation of DigitalOcean group, led by its CEO Yancy Spruill, the president said the conducive environment would include facilitating and inviting foreign investment in the IT sector of the country and transforming the youth population into an Information technology-savvy workforce for large-scale entry of Pakistan into the fast-developing international IT market.
The president said this would help build the image of Pakistan, harnessing its business potential and promoting the export of Pakistan’s IT services and products worldwide.
Potential of Pakistan’s IT sector
President Arif Alvi said that a strong commitment to making timely and correct decisions and implementing decisions and policies on a timeline basis was needed both at the provincial and federal levels to create an established and functional IT ecosystem in the country.
President Alvi urged the need for the bureaucracy to support all investors, including foreign established and well-reputed IT companies, keep their doors open, warmly welcome investors, help them complete their procedural requirements on time, and resolve their issues with due diligence.
President Alvi said that Pakistan’s government was focusing on reviewing the whole education system of the country to transform the education system from a non-market to a market-oriented system by delivering market-oriented knowledge, skills, and techniques to graduates to enable them to be readily adjusted in the market and play their role in the progress and development of the country.
Alvi appreciated DigitalOcean for investing in Pakistan by acquiring a Pakistani IT company at $350 million, which was the most prominent IT acquisition in the history of Pakistan.
