Foreign Ministers Meeting Mechanism Offers Strong Support for Stable Afghanistan: China

BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Friday that the foreign ministers’ meeting mechanism on the Afghan issue works as an essential coordinating force and offers durable support for a stable Afghanistan.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during his briefing that the Chinese Foreign Minister chaired the meeting and it was attended by foreign ministers of Pakistan, Iran, and Russia.

“Going forward, we need to discard the cold war mentality confrontation and stay committed to the principle of the state’s indivisibility, take the main cause of problems, take a complete approach, and sustain mutual respect and, mutual consultation, and friendly talks to guide the Afghan Taliban to accept a reasonable and practical policy and ease the international community to help its economy and board on a path of modernization” he added.

He maintained that a significant consensus was developed. First, respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan and support Kabul in pursuing a political future and developmental track based on Afghan-led and Afghan-owned.

“Second, we ask the interim government of Afghanistan to take more visible steps to dismantle terrorism and all sorts of terrorist outfits and stop its country from being used by any terrorist elements, and protect foreigners’ security and legitimate interests and rights”, he maintained.

“We also urge the Afghan officials to form a comprehensive government and protect the rights of all people. We stress that Washington and its allies are responsible for the present difficulties in Afghanistan, and they are required to lift sanctions over its assets and refrain from setting up military bases in and around Afghanistan.”

He added that they ask the world to help Afghanistan and uphold all diplomatic measures for a political solution. Chinese foreign minister also stressed that Afghan Taliban should also protect women’s rights.

According to APP, the foreign minister also talked about Washington’s policy in Afghanistan and stressed that the US failure in Afghanistan is diverse including political and counter-terrorism failure.
