ISLAMABAD: Former chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar, said on Monday that efforts were made to stop the 2018 elections, but they all were foiled.

He said that his verdict did not “completely” declare Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan truthful and honest, but it was only in the context of the 3 questions raised by Hanif Abbasi’s lawyer.

“Imran Khan was declared truthful and honest on 3 points. Akram Sheikh had only asked for a ruling on 3 points he raised against Imran Khan,” the former judge said, adding that on all 3 points, ex-PM Imran Khan was found truthful and honest.

Nisar rebuffed the allegations that ex-ISI chief Lieutenant General (r) Faiz Hamid pressurized him on the Panama case, leading to the disqualification of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

He said that he would talk to ex-army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Bajwa about the allegations.

Nisar said that individuals who are now discussing court verdicts do not have sufficient knowledge of the law.

Saqib Nisar admits possibility of wrong judgments

The ex-judge admitted that he may have given wrong rulings, but he wondered why the verdicts given in the national interest were never implemented.

The former CJP said that he would no longer appear on media for interviews and a book compassing his career would be published after his death that would tell the “complete story.”
