MULTAN: A former Union Council chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was arrested on Sunday from a polling station in Multan after he was found violating the election code of conduct.

Hamid Janjua was initially detained, according to the NA-157 returning officer, after it was discovered that he was loitering near the women’s polling place, which is against the law.

He was also allegedly caught on camera filming women entering and exiting the polls, a flagrant violation of the electoral code of conduct. He was then taken into custody and later handed over to the police for further legal action.

Mehr Bano Qureshi of PTI and Ali Musa Gilani of PPP have engaged in a challenging contest in NA-157.

Qureshi is the daughter of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Ali Musa Gilani is the son of Yousuf Raza Gilani, a former prime minister.
