CHEYENNE: Former Vice President Dick Cheney, a lifelong Republican announced on Friday that he will vote for Kamala Harris for president, western media reported. Dick Cheney has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, notably during Liz Cheney’s ill-fated reelection drive in 2022.

Donald Trump replied on his Truth Social platform by calling Dick Cheney “an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter.” The abbreviation stands for “Republican in name only.”

Dick Cheney has made few if any public appearances over the last year. He has dealt with heart problems since his 40s as well as underwent a heart transplant in 2012. He has been friends with Democrats over the years but never announced support one for president.

Dick Cheney supported Trump in 2016, but following Liz Cheney criticized Trump’s foreign policy decisions and Trump denounced the endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan launched when Cheney was vice president, their support diminished.

Several other top Republicans have also come out in support of Kamala Harris while some, including Sen. Mitt Romney and former Vice President Mike Pence, say they would not be voting for Donald Trump.
