ISLAMABAD: Founder of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), has declined to participate in an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) concerning a controversial video tweet from his social media account.
The FIA Cyber Wing decided on Thursday to investigate the uploading of a propaganda video featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Khan’s official X account.
According to FIA sources, a propaganda video was tweeted on May 26 in the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from PTI founder’s official X handle. The FIA’s Cyber Crime team visited Adiala Jail late at night to question Khan, but he refused to meet the team and declined participation in the investigation.
Khan stated he would only respond to the FIA’s questions in the presence of his lawyers. Consequently, the FIA team recorded his stance in writing. The FIA Cyber Wing plans to discuss the matter with four PTI members: Founder PTI, Barrister Gohar, opposition leader Omar Ayub, and Raoof Hasan. The investigation aims to determine whether Khan personally tweeted the video or if someone else did so with his consent.
The FIA will also investigate the origins and dissemination of the anti-Pakistan content. If the account holder is found responsible, legal action will be taken. If not, Khan will need to submit a written request to close the X account due to its unlawful use.
