Four Killed in Australia After Two Helicopters Collide Mid-Air

ISLAMABAD/AUSTRALIA: At least four people were killed and six others injured after two helicopters collided mid-air above public park outside Sea World on the Gold Coast, when the park was abuzz with families and children enjoying the summer school holidays.

Queensland Police Acting Inspector Gary Worrell said that the first information suggested that one of helicopters was taking off and the other was landing when they collided.

He appreciated the people who were among the first to reach the scene, a place along the sandbank was difficult to access.

Worrell said that one airframe had a windscreen removed, and it had been landed safely on the island. The other airframe had crashed and has upside down.

Members of the public and police tried to remove the families, and they commenced first aid and tried to help these people to safety.

According to the local authorities, of the six injured, three were in critical condition after they were wounded mainly from the impact of the glass. The injured were taken to the hospital.

Angus Mitchell, Australian Transport Safety Bureau Chief Commissioner, said that investigators have arrived at the scene to look into what had happened.
