Four Workers of Greek Rescue Team Killed in Libya: Minister

CAIRO: Four workers of a Greek rescue team en route to the flood-hit city of Derna and three members of a Libyan family were killed in a traffic accident on Sunday, local officials said.

Health minister for the Libyan eastern government, Othman Abduljaleel, also confirmed the accident and said that several members of the Greek rescue team were also wounded in the accident.  He added that two members of the Libyan family were also critically wounded in the road accident.

Similarly, the Greek army said a bus carrying medical personnel was struck by a car moving in the opposite direction, but it did not confirm death casualties. It added that they are probing to ascertain the causes of the road accident.

However, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not yet comment on Health Minister’s statement about the killing of four Greek citizens in the traffic accident. A diplomatic source said the Greek rescue team had 16 staff members and three interpreters.

Thousands of people died following two dams above Libya’s Derna broke on September 10 during a powerful storm.
