PARIS: French authorities have ordered a son of former Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, to leave the country over controversial posts on social media.

French new interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, in a post on X said that Omar bin Laden had lived in the department of Orne in Normandy as a spouse of a British national.

He has also lived in Sudan and Afghanistan. Omar at the age of 19 left his father and settled in Normandy in northern France in 2016.

According to the minister said that the jihadist’s son posted comments on his social networks in 2023 that promoted terrorism.

“As a result, the prefect of Orne issued an order to leave French territory,” Retailleau said. He added the decision endorsed by the courts, was taken in the interests of national security.

The interior minister also said Omar bin Laden has also been banned from returning to France for any reason whatsoever. He did not provide further details and it was not clear if Omar bin Laden had already left France.

Omar bin Laden married British woman Jane Felix-Browne, which was confirmed by media in 2007.

After marriage, she changed her name to Zaina Mohammed. Earlier Omar bin Laden sought to live in the UK, but his plea was dismissed by the British authorities.

Retailleau has pledged to bring “order” to immigration and crime, adding that the rule of law is neither intangible nor sacred.
