PARIS, France: France announced a $108 million aid package for Lebanon, aiming to address the country’s humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the ongoing war between Hezbollah and Israel.
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for immediate assistance for the displaced population and host communities.
The aid package is part of a larger international conference held in Paris to raise the $426 million urgently required by the UN. France also aims to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, strengthen its institutions, and support its armed forces in a potential peace effort.
International backing for Lebanon’s military, especially in the south, could play a vital role in a deal involving Hezbollah’s withdrawal from the border. Lebanon, dealing with an economic crisis, lacks resources to handle the displaced and a strained health system, making international cooperation essential.
Countries like Italy and Germany have already pledged additional aid. This coordinated effort is seen as crucial for long-term stability and peace in the region.
