NORWICH: France have secured their spot at Euro 2025 with a 2-1 win over Sweden and reigning champions England are within touching distance following a 2-1 home win over Ireland in the penultimate round of League A group games on Friday.
The top two sides in each of the four groups in League A will join Switzerland in the finals, while the remaining teams go into a series of playoffs for the seven remaining positions.
With 10 points from their five matches so far, France can finish no worse than 2nd in Group 3 and England only need a draw away to the Swedes, who have 7 points, to go through.
Spain suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic in Group 2, but the team remain top, three points ahead of Denmark, who defeat Belgium 3-0.
Germans also suffered a shock reverse, losing 3-0 away to Iceland, but they also remain top on 12 points, with the Iceland three points behind in second.
In Group 1, Finland have scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to snatch a 1-1 draw with Norway and the clash between Netherlands and Italy ended scoreless.
Those results leave the Netherlands top of the group on 8 points, two ahead of Norway and Italy and three ahead of Finland, suggesting all four sides can still qualify directly when the last round of matches takes place next Tuesday.
Scotland have secured a 2-0 win at Slovakia in Group B2, thanks to a brace from Claire Emslie. However, the encounter was most notable for a torrential thunderstorm that forced the teams to take a break of 40 minutes just before the hour mark.
