BEIRUT: France has decided to impose restrictions on Israeli settlers who have attacked Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, said foreign minister Catherine Colonna on Monday.
She made the remarks a day after meeting with Palestinian farmers in Ramallah, who had been targeted by Israeli settlers in recent weeks.
U.N. figures show that daily settler attacks have more than doubled since war between Israel and Hamas started on October 7. More than 200 Palestinians have been killed in the violence this year so far, including in assaults by Jewish settlers.
French foreign minister Catherine Colonna during a press conference in Beirut said Paris will not tolerate these acts and will not wait any longer.
France to take certain measures against radical Israeli settlers
She said that France has asked Israeli authorities to put an end to this adding that the country will take certain measures against radical Israeli settlers.
Meanwhile, the European Union is also studying the prospect of sanctions against violent Jewish settlers. Colonna added that this land is Palestinian and will be part of a Palestinian state.
Earlier, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron had announced the banning of those responsible for settler violence against Palestinians from entering Britain.
Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo also said that Brussels will work with the United States on sanctions targeting people involved in acts that undermine security, peace, and stability in the occupied West Bank.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier stated that the State Department was executing a new visa restriction policy targeting people to have been involved in undermining security, peace, or stability in the occupied West Bank.
