French Delegation Explores Energy Collaboration Opportunities with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: French Deputy Head of Mission, Guillaume Dabouis, engaged with Pakistan’s newly appointed Minister of Energy, Dr. Musadiq Masood Malik, to explore avenues of collaboration in the energy sector.

The discussions centered on potential French investments in various facets of Pakistan’s energy landscape, spanning LNG provision, energy resource exploration, and initiatives aimed at bolstering energy trading, distribution, and transmission infrastructure.

Expressing keen interest in revitalizing Pakistan’s energy sector, the French delegation conveyed their intent to contribute to efforts aimed at reducing line losses and enhancing overall sectoral efficiency. Warmly welcoming the minister to his new role, French officials extended felicitations and reiterated their commitment to fostering robust partnerships with Pakistan.

In response, Minister Masood Malik affirmed his dedication to addressing Pakistan’s longstanding energy challenges comprehensively. Emphasizing a departure from fragmented approaches, he pledged to present a meticulously prepared plan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure support for energy sector reforms. Stressing the importance of stakeholder consultations, he underscored the government’s commitment to aligning agreements with the IMF with the best interests of the Pakistani populace.

Furthermore, Minister Malik reaffirmed the government’s broader economic reform agenda, highlighting the Prime Minister’s commitment to overhauling key sectors, including Energy, Finance, Commerce, Industries & Production, and Communication. He emphasized the prioritization of Information Technology (IT) and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), along with modernizing the agricultural sector through AI and Machine Learning technologies.

The dialogue between the French delegation and the Minister of Energy signifies a promising collaboration, poised to address Pakistan’s energy challenges and foster mutually beneficial partnerships between Pakistan and France. As both nations work towards shared objectives, the potential for impactful interventions in Pakistan’s energy sector remains high.
