PARIS: France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot will travel to Lebanon on Sunday evening, his ministry said, as the region grapples with escalating fears of an impending all-out war.
The visit aims to engage with local authorities and extend French humanitarian support amidst the ongoing crisis.
According to a statement from the French foreign ministry, Barrot will depart from Paris shortly, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. This diplomatic effort follows a series of intense Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah that have raised concerns about further destabilization in Lebanon and the broader Middle East.
On Saturday, Barrot held discussions with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. During their conversation, he expressed France’s call for an “immediate halt to Israeli strikes in Lebanon” and stated the country’s opposition to any potential ground operations by Israel.
The French ministry reiterated the need for restraint from all parties involved, specifically urging Hezbollah and Iran to avoid actions that could exacerbate the conflict and lead to a wider regional conflagration.
The visit comes as Israel continues a campaign of airstrikes in Lebanon targeting Hezbollah.
