NEW YORK: Renowned French master jeweler Andre Chervin, known for crafting miniature lamps adorned with diamonds and rubies, as well as intricately carved animals and plants from gold and emerald, is finally showcasing his remarkable artistry with the public in New York.

Now 95 years old, Chervin described this exhibition as a culmination of his life’s work. He expressed, “This collection represents a lifetime of work. I could choose what to make, when, and exactly how I wanted them. I was free from the constraints of manufacturing for a customer’s order.”

Born in Paris in 1927, Chervin trained at the prestigious Haute Ecole de Joaillerie in the French capital before immigrating to New York in 1951.

There, along with another aspiring French jeweler, Serge Carponcy, armed with $2,000, he co-founded the atelier Carvin French in the heart of Manhattan. This atelier has been the creative force behind jewelry for esteemed brands like Tiffany and Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Bulgari for decades.

Despite his significant contributions to the jewelry world, Chervin has always shied away from public attention and rarely grants interviews. His daughter, Carole Chervin, who serves as the vice president of the atelier, explained, “My father never envisioned this exhibition. It was difficult for me to convince him there should be an exhibition. He’s a very private man, humble and modest. As I said, he did all of this work with a passion. He wasn’t seeking publicity.”
