ROUEN, France: French police have shot and killed an armed man who attempted to set fire to a synagogue in Rouen, a city in northern France.

The incident was confirmed by Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, who stated that the national police acted early in the morning to neutralize the individual.

The man, armed with a knife and an iron bar, approached the police, who then fired upon him, resulting in his death.

This attack underscores the tension and potential threats faced by religious communities in France, which hosts the largest Jewish community in Europe, following Israel and the United States, as well as the largest Muslim community in Europe.
