Funeral Prayer for Ismail Haniyeh Offered in Doha

DOHA:  The funeral prayer for Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been offered in Doha today following his assassination in Iran’s capital Tehran in an attack blamed on Israel. According to Al-Jazeera Ismail Haniyeh had resided in Doha along with other members of the Hamas political office.

AFP reported that Ismail Haniyeh will be buried at a cemetery in Lusail, Doha, after funeral prayers at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque – Qatar’s largest.  Thousands of mourners paid their respects to Haniyeh at a public funeral ceremony in Tehran on Thursday. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led prayers in Theran.

Pakistan, Turkey Announce a Day of mourning to Express Solidarity with Palestinians

Pakistan and Turkey have announced a day of mourning today in honour of Ismail Haniyeh and to express solidarity with the people of Palestine, while Hamas has called for a “day of furious rage” to coincide with the burial of their leader.

Shehbaz Sharif has demanded that Israel should be held accountable for the assassination of Hamas leader. Speaking in the National Assembly on Friday, the PM said the entire Pakistani nation and Muslim Ummah are aggrieved over the martyrdom of Haniyeh.

He added the martyrdom of Haniyeh is a blow to peace efforts in the region. He said Islamabad condemns terrorism in all its shapes and manifestations including extra judicial and extraterritorial killings.  He strongly condemned the brutalities and atrocities committed by Israel against innocent Palestinians, asserting that Israel has exceeded all bounds of persecution in Palestine.

Later, in absentia funeral prayers of Ismail Haniyeh were also offered in the PM house mosque, which were attended by the Prime Minister and ministers.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday said that Israel had turned “rogue” state with its “assassination” of the Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and needed to be stopped.

In a news conference, Safadi condemned the killing, asserting that it undermined ongoing talks for a ceasefire and a hostage release deal in Gaza.
