RAWALPINDI: Funeral prayers of Naib Subedar Muhammad Farooq and Sepoy Muhammad Javed Iqbal of Pakistan’s armed forces who embraced martyrdom while thwarting a cowardly terrorist attack, were offered in Dera Ismail Khan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated in a press release.

According to ISPR, senior officers, jawans of the Pakistan Army, the general public and relatives of martyrs attended the funeral prayers.

The bodies of the martyrs have been sent to their native areas where they will be laid to rest with full military honours.

According to ISPR, on the night of 15/16 July, terrorists carried out a cowardly attack on the Rural Health Center (RHC), Kirri Shamozai in Dera Ismail Khan district and opened indiscriminate fire on RHC staff.

Resultantly, five innocent civilians including two Lady Health Workers, two children and one Watchman embraced Shahadat, ISPR stated.

Security Forces in the vicinity were immediately mobilized for clearance operation in RHC and in the ensuing fire exchange, Pakistan Army troops effectively engaged the terrorists as a result of which three terrorists were sent to hell, ISPR stated.

However, during an intense fire exchange two soldiers of the Pakistan Army, Naib Subedar Muhammad Farooq (age 44 years, resident of Narowal district) and Sepoy Muhammad Javed Iqbal (age 23 years, resident of Khanewal district) paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced martyrdom, ISPR stated.

Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area. “The perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act targeting innocent civilians, especially women and children, will be brought to justice,” ISPR resolved.
