ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, has submitted a comprehensive assessment report to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, detailing the reasons behind Pakistan’s lackluster performance in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.
In a confidential report forwarded to Chairman PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, Kirsten highlighted several key issues that contributed to Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the mega tournament, local media reported.
According to media reports, Kirsten’s analysis pinpointed critical areas such as player fitness, discipline concerns, and game awareness as significant factors hampering Pakistan’s performance on the global stage.
Gary Kirsten has raised significant concerns about the players’ fitness and suggested that inadequate physical conditioning may have impacted the team’s ability to sustain high-performance levels throughout the tournament, according to media reports.
Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 was marked by inconsistency and unexpected setbacks. The team suffered a notable upset defeat against tournament co-hosts, the USA, followed by a crucial loss to arch-rivals India.
Despite victories in their subsequent matches against Canada and Ireland, Pakistan’s earlier losses proved decisive, leading to their elimination from the latter stages of the tournament.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to conduct a thorough review of Kirsten’s findings. He intends to engage PCB officials and seek insights from former cricketers to assess the report comprehensively and determine the appropriate course of action moving forward.
