CAIRO, Egypt: Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza have hit an impasse, with Egyptian sources citing Israel’s perceived lack of genuine intent and internal discord among its mediators.

The sources, speaking anonymously to Reuters, criticized Israel for approving conditions during negotiations only to backtrack with amendments or new terms, undermining progress.

This behavior, characterized by contradictions and delays, suggests to the mediators that Israel views the talks as a mere formality rather than a sincere effort to achieve peace.
