RAMALLAH: The Gaza health ministry has reported that at least 30,035 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and 70,457 wounded in Israel’s relentless military offensive in Gaza since October 7 in the besieged enclave.

According to CNN, which cited the Gaza health ministry’s figures, the mounting casualties reflect the harrowing ordeal endured by Palestinians amidst Israel’s barrage of airstrikes and ground operations, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.

Despite widespread international condemnation and appeals for restraint, Israel’s campaign in Gaza has continued, backed by steadfast support from the United States, its principal ally and primary military aid provider.

The escalating death toll has intensified concerns, particularly as over 1 million people are densely packed in Rafah, where Israel is reportedly poised to launch a fresh offensive coinciding with the onset of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Over 104 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Attack on Aid Distribution Point

Meanwhile, the health ministry in Gaza said Thursday that 104 Palestinians were killed and more than 750 injured after Israeli soldiers opened fire on civilians gathered at an aid distribution point in the Palestinian territory. The incident, described as a “massacre” by officials, unfolded in Gaza City, drawing widespread condemnation and calls for accountability.

According to Ashraf al-Qudra, spokesman for the Gaza health ministry, the death toll from the attack at the Nabulsi roundabout soared to 104, with hundreds more wounded by gunfire. Many of the critically injured await urgent medical attention in overwhelmed and under-resourced healthcare facilities in northern Gaza.

Raed al-Nims, spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, lamented the dire situation, stating that the wounded lack access to necessary treatment amidst the collapse of the healthcare system. Al-Nims highlighted the intentional targeting of PRCS crews by Israeli forces, resulting in the loss of 20 staff members.

Egypt and Jordan on Thursday strongly condemned the “inhumane” Israeli attack on the people waiting for aid in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Egypt’s foreign ministry issued a resolute statement denouncing the Israeli assault on unarmed Palestinian civilians gathered at the Nabulsi roundabout in northern Gaza. The ministry emphasized the reprehensible nature of targeting peaceful citizens as they awaited assistance, labeling it a “shameful crime” and a blatant violation of international law.

Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, Egypt reiterated its firm stance against any actions that jeopardize the safety and well-being of civilians in the conflict-ridden region.

Similarly, Jordan’s foreign ministry condemned the “brutal targeting” by Israeli occupation forces of Palestinians assembled to receive aid near Al-Rashid Street in Gaza’s Nabulsi roundabout. The ministry’s statement echoed Egypt’s sentiments, condemning the assault on individuals seeking humanitarian relief.

Reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Jordan reiterated its commitment to standing alongside the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice and dignity.
