GAZA CITY: The Gaza health ministry has released updated figures, stating that the death toll in the ongoing relentless Israeli bombardments, which began on October 7, has reached at least 23,469 people. Additionally, the ministry reported that 59,604 persons, mostly women and children, have been wounded during the more than three months of intense fighting.

The dire situation in Gaza’s health system was highlighted by UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, who revealed that just over 1,000 of the 5,000 required beds for addressing trauma and emergency needs were available as of Thursday. Dujarric expressed concern about the deteriorating health facilities, noting that over 75% of the 77 basic health facilities in Gaza are completely non-operational.

Threat to Gaza Hospitals

Ongoing Israeli attacks in Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis, coupled with evacuation orders in nearby areas, are threatening the closure of three hospitals: Al-Aqsa, Nasser, and the Gaza European hospital, according to Dujarric.

Israel’s continued attacks, especially in the vicinity of hospitals and southern Gaza, where ground operations are intensifying, continue to contribute to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.

The latest casualty figures, updated as of January 10, reveal a devastating toll on the Palestinian population, with 23,910 reported deaths in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including 9,684 children. Additionally, 63,359 Palestinians have been injured in the conflict.
