General Elections 2024: Key Electoral Battles in Quetta and Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: In Balochistan, a province known for its vast geographical spread and unique political landscape, the electoral enthusiasm has reached new heights with an overwhelming total of around 1,700 candidates are vying for 51 provincial and 16 national assembly seats.

Among the prominent figures competing in the elections are Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Akhtar Mengal, former Chief Ministers Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Jam Kamal Khan, Dr. Abdul Malik, and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, along with Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Khalid Magsi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and others.

In the National Assembly Constituency NA-261, a high-stakes battle is unfolding with Balochistan National Party Chief Akhtar Jan Mengal, former Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri, and former Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haidari locking horns in a closely watched race.

The electoral landscape of Balochistan reflects a diverse electorate, with a total of 5,371,947 registered voters, comprising 3,016,164 male voters and 2,355,783 female voters, local media reported. This indicates a significant participation from both genders.

To facilitate the electoral process, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established 5,028 polling stations across the province, ensuring accessibility and efficiency in the voting process.

As polling day approaches, anticipation mounts, with the people eagerly awaiting the outcome of these crucial elections, which will shape the political landscape of Balochistan for the years to come.
