BERLIN: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is set to embark on a diplomatic mission to the Balkans on October 5 amidst growing tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. Baerbock’s visit aims to hold talks with leaders from both Serbia and Kosovo, urging both sides to de-escalate the conflict. The meetings will be held on the sidelines of a gathering in Albania, where foreign ministers from the Western Balkans are convening.

A spokesman from the German Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern about the situation in the region, describing it as “definitely worrying.” The meetings scheduled in Albania are part of the ongoing Berlin Process, initiated in 2014 to foster cooperation among the six Western Balkan countries.

Baerbock’s visit underscores Germany’s commitment to regional stability and its proactive role in diplomatic efforts to address the escalating tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. The visit also aligns with broader international efforts aimed at resolving the longstanding disputes in the Balkans and promoting peace and cooperation in the region.
