SHANGHAI, China: Germany’s Economy Minister Robert Habeck emphasized the European Union’s willingness to discuss tariffs on Chinese exports during his visit to China on June 22.
Speaking in Shanghai after meetings in Beijing, Habeck conveyed that the EU is open for dialogue and hopes China receives this message. This visit marks the first by a senior European official since the EU proposed significant duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs), citing excessive subsidies.
Habeck noted that there is time until November for dialogue on tariff issues, advocating for open markets with fair competition.
Provisional EU duties are set to begin by July 4, with a final decision on definitive duties expected by November 2. Habeck stressed the importance of negotiations and dialogue during this period.
