BERLIN: German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced on Saturday that Germany will grant three months visas to Syrian and Turkish quake victims with family in the country.
The interior minister told the local media that this is this is emergency assistance. The minister said, “We want to permit Turkish and Syrian families in Germany to bring their relatives from the crisis area to their homes.
Turkish quake victims
The deadly quake in Syria and Turkey has killed more than 25,000 people. Faeser added that those eligible can have “regular visas, issued immediately and valid for 90-day”.
The joint step with the ministry of foreign affairs would permit victims to “find shelter and take medical treatment” in Germany, she said.
About 2.9 million people of Turkish origin are living in Germany, with more than half also holding Turkish nationality.

The Syrian community is also large in the county and is estimated at more than 924,000 since ex-German chancellor Angela Merkel had opened the borders to Syrian refugees in 2015-16.
