PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A senior Pakistani politician of the Awami National Party (ANP), Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, stated on Wednesday his autobiography reflects on the mistakes he made as a politician.

“It does not criticise the party,” he said, emphasising his family’s sacrifices for the ANP and expressing pride in being part of a family known for its martyrdom in service to the party.

He shared these thoughts during the launch ceremony of his autobiography, Main Kion Nahi Toota (Why Didn’t I Break?).

The autobiography, compiled by Dr. Sohail Khan, a professor at the Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan, chronicles Bilour’s personal and political journey. The event was organised by China Window and the Pakistan Academy of Letters which was attended by prominent figures, including ANP Secretary-General Salim Khan, ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa head Mian Iftikhar Hussain, former Vice Chancellor Dr. Noor Jahan, and a large audience from diverse walks of life.

This book, Bilour said, covers my childhood memories, family background, and entry into politics. He recounted meeting Khan Abdul Wali Khan in 1969, a turning point that led to his association with the National Awami Party and later the Awami National Party.

He clarified that his candid reflections on the party’s past mistakes are intended as constructive insights for the coming generations and should not be misinterpreted as criticism of the ANP.

“My autobiography presents factual accounts that may not align with everyone’s perspective but remain my honest reflections.”

The ANP stalwart has served as a Member of the National Assembly and as a federal minister more than once.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mian Iftikhar Hussain praised Bilour as a proud leader of the ANP and a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan.

He highlighted that the book beautifully captures pivotal events in Bilour’s political life and will serve as a valuable resource for the new generation.

He also commended the sacrifices made by the ANP in its fight against terrorism and its commitment to non-violence, “which are prominently documented in the book.”
