UNITED NATIONS: Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti has expressed “concern and disappointment” for Palestinians who have been subjected to “the most despicable war crimes” and “all forms of violations of human rights” at the hands of Israel.

During a speech at the UN General Assembly, Nafti criticized the international community for its “unjustifiable and immoral silence,” asserting that calls for human rights and humanitarian considerations vanish when it comes to the Palestinian people.

“The international community must treat all human beings equally, without discrimination or double standards,” he insisted.

Highlighting the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Nafti lamented that the war has eroded trust in the UN’s ability to implement its own resolutions. He reaffirmed Tunisia’s unwavering support for the rights of Palestinians, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also voiced support for Palestine’s bid for full UN membership.

Nafti pointed to broader global issues, including rising conflicts, extremism, terrorism, organized crime, and unprecedented levels of poverty and inequality. He noted the growing digital and developmental divide between the Global North and South, criticizing the international financial system’s failure to meet the developmental needs of the majority of states.

“The current international system is no longer on track,” Nafti stated, emphasizing the need for collective action to address chaos, inequality, and turmoil on a global scale. He called for the implementation of African solutions to African problems as a strategy for achieving the goal of silencing the guns by 2030.

Nafti also appealed for the UN’s assistance in maintaining stability and security in Libya, while rejecting foreign intervention in the country’s internal affairs. He urged conflicting parties in Sudan to cease hostilities and engage in dialogue to alleviate the suffering caused by war and displacement.
