ABU DHABI: Organized by the Atlantic Council, the seventh annual Global Energy Forum has opened in Abu Dhabi.

Among the senior figures participating are US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy Grant Shapps, and US Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security Amos Hochstein.

As part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the Global Energy Forum will set the global energy agenda for the current year. The event will look into the challenge of managing energy security priorities and decarbonization efforts, the Emirates News Agency reported on Saturday.

Global Energy Forum

This year’s Global Energy Forum is of particular importance as crucial climate and energy strategy issues take center stage toward the UN’s Climate Change Conference of the Parties, which the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will also host.

Other participants include Francesco La Camera, director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency, and Ditte Juul Jorgensen, director-general for energy at the European Commission.

The forum is convened in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Mubadala Investment Company, TAQA, and Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, with CNBC as its international media partner.
