GILGIT: In a major relief for the masses, the federal government of Pakistan has significantly increased the amount of wheat subsidy allocated for Gilgit-Baltistan from Rs 9.5 billion to Rs 15.872 billion for the financial year 2024-25 to ensure the availability of the essential food item at affordable prices.
In the light of the instructions of Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Provincial Minister for Food Gilgit-Baltistan and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, the tireless efforts and hard work of Secretary Finance and Secretary Food Gilgit-Baltistan paid off to aid the impoverished locals.
The federal government has significantly increased the amount of wheat subsidy from Rs 9.5 billion to Rs 15.872 billion to provide relief to the masses. With this increase in wheat subsidy, it will not only be easier to deal with the challenges in meeting the region’s wheat demand in the future, but it will also be possible to increase the per capita distribution of wheat in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The strategically located mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has long relied on subsidized wheat from the federal government due to limited cultivable land.
The availability of subsidized wheat will address Gilgit-Baltistan’s food security needs.
