SAN FRANCISCO: Alphabet-owned Google is laying off at least 100 employees from various teams within its cloud unit, US media reported on Tuesday.
The layoffs affect roles in sales, operations, engineering, consulting, and “go to market” strategy. However, Google did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the report.
This news follows Google’s unspecified number of layoffs across different teams in April, as part of its cost-cutting efforts.
Additionally, in January, Google laid off hundreds of employees amid widespread job cuts in the tech and media industries due to economic uncertainty.

Last month, Google reduced at least 200 employees from its “Core” unit, which included key teams and engineering talent. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai told employees that the firm would make fewer layoffs in the second half of 2024.
Reports said that the cloud unit, led by Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian, has been under high pressure to accelerate growth as competition heats up in Artificial Intelligence.
