NEW YORK: Google has announced the upcoming launch of a new AI-powered feature for its video conferencing platform, Google Meet, which will automatically generate meeting notes. The feature, named “Take notes for me,” aims to streamline the note-taking process and enhance productivity during virtual meetings.

The new functionality will be available to users who hold specific licenses, including Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, or the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on. It will not be accessible to all users immediately but will be rolled out to those who meet the licensing criteria.

According to a blog post on Google’s Workspace Updates, administrators will have the ability to control access to this feature through a new Admin panel parameter. The setting can be adjusted by navigating to Apps > Google Workspace > Google Meet > Gemini Settings.

This allows IT admins to test the feature within specific organizational units or groups before it is more broadly implemented across the organization.

Once activated, the “Take notes for me” function will automatically generate notes during Google Meet sessions. The notes will adhere to the organization’s established Meet retention policy and will be stored in the meeting owner’s Google Drive folder.

After the meeting concludes, both the organizer and the user who enabled the feature will receive an email with a summary of the meeting notes.

Google has emphasized that the meeting recap will not be immediately available. Users will see a temporary notice stating, “Meet is taking notes and will produce a summary with action items and other meeting details,” while the notes are being compiled.
