CALIFORNIA: Alphabet’s Google is testing the addition of check marks next to certain companies in its search results, according to a spokesperson. This initiative aims to help users identify verified sources and avoid fraudulent websites.
Imposter sites that mimic official businesses can appear in search results, misleading users and potentially damaging brand reputations.
“We regularly experiment with features that assist shoppers in identifying trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently conducting a small test that displays check marks next to certain businesses on Google,” the spokesperson explained.

Google already employs automated systems to detect and filter out pages with “scammy” or fraudulent content to minimize their visibility in search results. The Verge reported that only a limited number of users can currently see this feature, indicating that the test has not yet been widely implemented.
