ISLAMABAD: A doodle with an Indus Dolphin theme has been added to Google’s homepage on Monday to honor Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day.

Google stated in a statement regarding the significance of this historic day, “Today’s yearly Doodle celebrates Pakistan Independence Day 2023! After nearly 200 years under British rule, Pakistan became an independent country on this day in 1947.

It was said, “Muslim Indians formed the Pakistan Movement in 1947 in response to the Indian Independence Act, which gave them the right to create their sovereign nation-state. The All-India Muslim League, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was at the forefront of the effort. The national song is sung, and the Pakistani flag is raised high in the air by its citizens throughout the nation on Independence Day. The primary festivities occur in Islamabad, where the president and prime minister deliver motivational addresses about national heroes, recent triumphs, and future objectives.”

Government buildings like the President’s House, Supreme Court, and Parliament House are decorated with bright colors and lights. Rallies, fireworks, and musical concerts are also organized for the public. The Indus River dolphin is a toothed whale species unique to Pakistan and is depicted in today’s Doodle. This endangered species, called ‘Bhulan’ in Sindhi and Urdu, is a unique sighting off Pakistan’s shores.
