ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday challenged the Lahore High Court (LHC) orders to make public the complete record of Toshakhana gifts received by public office-holders from 1990 to 2001.

A single bench of LHC had on March 22 ordered the government to release the Toshakhana records from 1990 to 2001. A two-member LHC bench, comprised of Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan and Justice Raza Qureshi, will hear the federal government’s petition challenging the LHC orders that was moved by the additional attorney general.

In compliance with the orders of the LHC, the federal government on March 12 made public the record of state officials who obtained Toshakhana gifts since from 2002 to 2023 and uploaded the 466-page data on the Cabinet Division’s website.

Established in 1974, the Toshakhana is a department under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division and stores precious gifts received by public office holders – including former presidents, prime ministers, ministers and government officers – from foreign governments and dignitaries.
