PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday announced a public holiday across the province on 1st Muharram the first day of the new Islamic year.
The Chief Secretary in the notification, said the holiday on the first Muharram is subjected to the moon sighting.
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet on July 6 moon of Muharram, after which a new Islamic year will be announced. The meeting will be presided over by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir.
Similarly, meetings of zonal committees will also be convened at the respective headquarters. Meanwhile, the federal and provincial governments have taken extraordinary security measures to control the law and order situation during the month of Muharram.
