Greek Actor Spiros Focas, known for ‘Rambo 3’ Dies aged 86

ATHENS: Greek actor Spiros Focas, who played villain in Rambo 3, died at the age of 86, his family said on Friday.

His wife in a Facebook post said that Focas passed away in an Athens hospital.

Despite being a Greek actor, Focas regularly appeared in Hollywood and Italian films.

Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni paying tribute to the late actor said Focas was one of the country’s best known and most loved actors.

Focas was born in the port city of Patras in 1937. He started his film career in 1959, later he moved to Italy. His film and television career spans over four-decades.

Focas worked with prominent directors Vincente Minnelli and Luchino Visconti, starring in the latter’s 1960 classic ‘Rocco and his Brothers’.

His most prominent appearances were in the 1980s as an Afghan warrior in Rambo 3 and the villain Omar in the movie Jewel of the Nile opposite Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito.
