Green Pakistan Initiative to make Farmers Self-Sufficient: Pakistan Army Chief

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has said that key purpose of the Green Pakistan Initiative was to make the farmers self-sufficient and boost agricultural growth in the country to new heights.

Addressing the National Farmers Convention in Islamabad on Friday, the army chief said that farming was the profession of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and other messengers of God as it portrayed discipline, growth and patience.

He further said that farmers in the country would be facilitated with introduction of agriculture malls in all districts, cold storage facilities, availability of easy loans, climate change resistant seeds and genetically engineered livestock for ensuring a better yield and prosperous economy in the country.

General Asim Munir further said that, with the grace of God, Pakistan has been blessed with immense natural resources and had been progressing rapidly in the 1960s. However, the country’s smooth growth was de-tracked as the nation forgot Quaid-e-Azam’s message of unity, faith and discipline.

He reaffirmed that formation of Pakistan was not accidental, instead it is established on the name of the Almighty,” remembering the audience that there were only two states being created in the name of Islam-State of Pakistan and State of Madinah.

General Asim Munir Pledges to Counter Panic, Chaos, Fake News

Referring to the flooding propaganda news on social media, General Asim Munir said that mostly fake news was being used to promote the impression that the state was in decline while creating an attempt to create panic and chaos in the country. However, he added that such kind of attempts and mafias would be eliminated in the country.

He apprised the gathering that Pakistan has rich resources including glaciers, rivers, mountains having gold, granite and copper, with fertile land producing world’s best rice and fruits like Kinnow, mango etc.

The Army Chief further said that a major part of the income of the Green Pakistan Initiative would go to the provinces, while the rest would be kept for farmers and agricultural research. During the Convention the farmers kept chanting Nara-e-Takbeer and Pakistan Zindabad and Pak Army Zindabad.
