SWABI: Local officials said on Friday that a grenade attack martyred an assistant sub-inspector of police and wounded two police personnel in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The police officials said that unknown attackers threw a grenade inside the police vehicle carrying ASI Sahir Khan and two policemen Gul Nasib and Ijaz to the Yar Hussain Police Station, Swabi for Iftar. The blast resulted in the martyrdom of the police ASI and left police constable Nasib “critically wounded” and Constable Ijaz sustained “minor wounds”.
The injured police personnel Nasib was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for medical treatment.
Police officials said that they have initiated a search operation in the area for the arrest of the “attackers”.
Earlier, a meeting of the country’s National Security Committee decided to launch a countrywide anti-terrorism operation in a bid to root out surging of terrorism.
